In 1871, Boston banker Amasa Lincoln sailed to Santa Barbara and built the Victorian hotel of his dreams. Designed by renowned architect, Peter J. Barber, the Upham Hotel and Country House displays the distinctive hallmarks of Victorian Italianate architecture. Romantic flourishes include carved cornice pieces and brackets, sweeping verandas, and a classic cupola. Today, completely restored, the Upham Hotel and Country House (celebrating its 135th year) is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Southern California.
Located in the heart of Santa Barbara’s historic downtown, the Upham Hotel and Country House is a garden oasis convenient to boutiques, gourmet restaurants, performing arts theatres, and museums. The hotel offers fifty guest rooms, including luxurious suites and cottages, some with gas fireplaces and private patios. Well appointed rooms include the special touches that discerning travelers appreciate: spa quality bath products, plush terry cloth robes, down comforters and pillows, complimentary bottled water and fresh cut flowers.
