Famous for legendary service, the Arizona Inn is noted in Rene Lecler's "The 300 Best Hotels in the World" as "the Southwest as it should be...a hotel that does not look like one...with superb service cheerful people and food which is the best within a hundred miles..."
Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the 69-year old Inn is still owned and operated by the founding Greenway family. Its charming Majorcan Spanish style casitas of pink adobe with blue shutters sprawl over 14 acres in a quiet residential neighborhood near the center of the city. Bricked walkways meander through a walled landscape of lush gardens, lawns and cactus. Guests congregate in the large, airy central library with its hand-pegged mahogany floors and antique Kilim rugs. They browse among the books, play chess, or partake of afternoon tea in front of a crackling fire.
Each room is individually decorated. Antique and period furnishings are augmented with original botanical and Indian prints. Many rooms have private hedged patios.
Voted one of the top ten restaurants in Tucson, fine dining is offered either inside or outside overlooking the gardens. The central dining room is a spacious room with high cathedral beamed ceiling, Mexican Colonial corner fireplace and French doors opening onto an interior courtyard. The Cocktail Lounge has a garden décor with hanging plants, Audubon prints and luxuriously upholstered furnishings. A pianist plays at night. A delicious dinner could start with Arizona Inn smoked salmon appetizer. An entrée of roast confit of duck brushed with an orange coffee glaze might follow, and then a finale of home-made ice cream, a fresh fruit tart, or homemade cakes.
The 60-foot heated pool is sheltered in a garden setting and also has a Pool Dining Room and terraces available for dining. There are two Har-Tru clay tennis courts, an English croquet court and Ping-Pong table.
The Inn has several 5 bedroom private residences on the property each with private swimming pools and full hotel amenities. The houses are ideal for family reunions, small board of directors retreats and destination weddings.
