The 1770 House, built over 200 years ago as a private residence, is now an inn of exceeding comforts and a restaurant of elegance and distinction. The 1770 House is nestled on Main Street in the heart of East Hampton Village. A short bike ride will take you to some of the best beaches in the United States. At dinner, Chef Kevin Penner starts with local ingredients: the lobster, duck, skate and striped bass, sweet corn and tomatoes of Eastern Long Island; but unlike his 18th-century counterparts, he'll offer you Dover sole, Colorado lamb, Hudson Valley foie gras-a distinctively American menu that has earned glowing reviews from The New York Times. The wine list is astounding-15 champagnes, 100 whites, 200 reds, from all over the world, including several hard to find gems. Finally, when you've savored the last morsel of your banana financier you can contentedly sip a single-malt scotch, a cognac or armagnac, or any of the 10 different vintages of Chateau D'Yquem.
