A Living Room

The financial and social titans who vacationed on The Strand at the turn of the century would be pleased with the revitalization of this Gulf Coast resort city. At the forefront of this renovation is The Tremont House, which offers sophisticated comforts and modern elegance. The building, a late nineteenth-century dry goods warehouse constructed in a high Victorian style, eventually feel into disrepair. The massive four-story stucco building with ornamental facing and cornice trim was purchased by Cynthia and George Mitchell, whose goal was to recapture the original Victorian splendor.

The owners have transformed the former warehouse into a dazzling and elegant 111-room hotel. Complete with four-story atrium lobby, critically-acclaimed restaurant, and handsome antique bar, the Tremont House offers guests timeless ambiance with the convenience of a modern hotel.

Victorian-inspired guestrooms feature hardwood floors, 14-foot ceilings and fans, brass bed, and massive armoires. The black-and-white Italian-tile bathrooms are furnished with towel-warmers, Crabtree & Evelyn amenities, and bottled drinking water.

The Tremont House offers intimate dining at The Merchant Prince restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and exceptional room service cuisine 24 hours daily. The chefs have enthusiastically embraced the tradition of regional American foods and have created exciting menus. The historic Toujouse Bar is located in the sunlit atrium, where guests enjoy casual elegance, fine cocktails and wines, as well as daily tea and champagne hours.

The Tremont's sister restaurant, The Wentletrap, is named after a rare Texas seashell. Set in a neighboring historic building on the Strand, The Wentletrap offers superb specialties in a more formal atmosphere. The three-story atrium, luxurious bar, and fine food are sure to delight the most discriminating connoisseur.
