La Casa del Zorro Desert Resort first opened its doors in 1937 when it was known as the Desert Lodge, positioned in the Borrego Valley which lies in the path of history. It was here that Juan Batista de Anza in 1774 discovered the land route to California now known as the Butterfield Trail.
Today, La Casa de Zorro still honors and preserves elements of its humble beginning. Some of the original adobe walls surround the lobby, salon and lounge. Public areas and guestrooms combine luxurious contemporary and traditional furnishings with antiques and works of art reminiscent of early California. An extensive art collection of works by Marjorie Reed and Frank Kenney grace the walls throughout the resort, portraying early days of the Butterfield Trail and scenic desert vistas.
"La Casa" is located on a 42-acre, manicured oasis in the heart of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, just under a two-hour drive from San Diego and two and half to three hours from the Orange County and Los Angeles areas. Its serene environment, deluxe accommodations, amenities and recreational activities richly deserve its four-diamond rating.
Guest units include garden-style mini-suites, a two-story complex of deluxe poolside rooms with fireplaces and secluded individual casitas, most with a private pool or spa. Guestroom accessories include upscale bath amenities, scale, slippers and bathrobes.
Recreational activities abound. There is a state-of-the-art fitness center surrounded by six night-lit tennis courts, a viewing patio, an Olympic style lap pool and an exercise pool in a Mediterranian setting - all at no charge to resort guests. Lawn games, hiking and biking, park tours and adjacent championship golf are also available.
La Casa del Zorro's elegant Butterfield dining room offers an inviting mix of contemporary and traditional menus and an impressive wine list which has received Wine Spectator Magazine's award of excellence. Casual dining is available in the Fox Den Lounge, as well as in-room and poolside service. |
