First built as college faculty housing and artist community, El Encanto was converted in the early 1900s into a winter cottage resort for the "carriage trade." Today, guests are more likely to arrive in Mercedes or Jaguars, but the splendor of that bygone era lingers. The New York Times has called this "A Classic Hideaway."
A charter member of Historic Hotels of America, El Encanto Hotel and Garden Villas is a classic ten-acre resort, with 83 guest rooms and villas nestled in beautifully landscaped gardens, all overlooking Santa Barbara, the ocean and Channel Islands. The emphasis is on serenity and service in fabulous surroundings. The decor is country French, lavish with warm colors and floral prints. No two rooms are identical. Six of the villas, including the presidential villa with wood-burning fireplaces in the parlor and bedroom, are recently renovated.
Surrounded by mature banana plants, the pool terrace perches like a fragment of the French Riviera above the Pacific coastline.
The intimate dining terrace is a most romantic rendezvous setting. The extraordinary wine list, featuring both California and European wines, enhances the pleasures of the gourmet cuisine. Chef Mark Kropezynski presents Chilean Sea Bass with whole grain mustard jus from a dinner menu which changes daily.
El Encanto is fully equipped to handle conferences for from 5 to 60 persons. State-of-the-art audio-visual and communications technology is available. All four meeting and banquet rooms offer natural light and ocean views. |
