The Azienda Agricola Il Gaidello is a vast agricultural estate situated in the fertile Po River valley just outside the town of Castelfranco Emilia. The complex of 250-year-old farmhouses is located in an oasis of tranquillity and promises a delightful Italian experience.
The Villa Gaidello has been divided into three complete apartments, each named after one of the sisters who own the estate. The Adriana Lc is located where the original stable once was. The manger area is now the main bedroom, and it has open beam ceilings throughout. In the Paola Giovanna apartment, beautiful antiques and rich colors combine to create serene elegance. The Chiara Maria has high ceilings and a warm ambience, reminiscent of times past. The apartments, furnished with 1800s antiques, also highlight local artists, from the hand-decorated walls to the wrought iron sconces. In addition, several farmhouses on the Gaidello estate have been restored and converted into guest apartments.
The fields surrounding the family estate produce rich red tomatoes used in the Gaidello's pasta sauces, onions for pickling in balsamic vinegar, walnuts used to make liquor called Nocino, and rows of moscato grapes for guests to pick and eat. Near the small lake by the Casa Padronale, there is a small orchard of wild fruit trees.
The restaurant, Il Gaidello, is a converted stable where guests can enjoy delicious food prepared by the rezdore (skilled countrywomen). Paola Bini closely supervises the cooking and adds finishing touches to every dish. Most of the meals are eaten family style at massive wooden tables and served with local wines and Nocino. For a real treat, try the Gaidello's Antipasto - Crescentine, Salami, Proscuito, Mortadella, Onions in Balsamic Vinegar and Artichokes in Olive Oil. Delicious!
For a true taste of Italy, don't miss the Villa Giadello.
