Among all the Villas of Lucca, La Principessa claims the most distant origins.

La Principessa is situated in the foothills of Lucca where numerous parks and gardens screen the austere architecture of palace and mansions of the noblest and most illustrious families of then region. Priding itself as being of ancient origins, it was in fact the residence and court of Castruccio Castracani, Lord and Duke of Lucca, man of arms and soldier of fortune who served the emperor Arrigo the 7th and then Ludovico the Bavarian. Through the tales of Machiavelli he was portrayed as the Ideal Prince, passing from History to legend. The appearance of the mansion in those days, which can be found in an illustrated description in Sercambi’s chronicles, was quite different to what it is now.

Since its construction, around 1320, the mansion has undergone many changes due to the requirement of its various owners. However it has kept its rare and magical atmosphere.

It is not surprising that many noblemen and diplomats of Napoleone’s Court, who came to Lucca with the Princess Elisa Baciocchi Bonaparte in 1805, made their ancestral homes in the surrounding hills.

The building acquired its present appearance during the early years of 19th century. The elegant, simple design of its façade and reconstruction of its garden in the French style make it a princely mansion. It is filled with masses of shrubs symmetrically distributed along 13th century walls. The Borbone-Parma, Lucca’s last reigning city-state family, transformed it into a place worthy of their prestigious and illustrious guests. The hotel’s name was given at this time because of some unsolved mysteries and intriguing love affairs.

The Principessa has become an exclusive and comfortable hotel and resting place for illustrious pilgrims who come from all corners of the world to come visit and admire the wonders of Tuscany.

The Villa has 33 elegant rooms and 8 luxurious Junior Suites all with air conditioning, minibar, telephone, satellite tv, internet wireless connection. It offers every comforts in its lounge with fireplace, bar, swimming pool set in a wonderful garden, free parking space, high speed internet access and wireless.
