Passing through the gate and entering the vast park-like setting of Villa Crespi is like wandering into the past. The Lombard cotton industrialist, Benigno Crespi, whose travels to the Orient fueled his vision for this unique residence, built the Hotel in the 1880's. Dominated by a Moorish minaret, which rises above the larches, Villa Crespi is visible for miles around. Richly carved, Moorish-style columns, capitals and archways, intricately patterned floors and fresco ceilings are just some of the exotic treats offered at Villa Crespi.
Eight suites and six guestrooms, furnished with magnificent canopied beds, elaborately carved furniture, Moorish arches, and inlaid wood floors, echo exotic Italian palaces. Deep, rich color, crystal chandeliers, fresh flowers and guilded moldings create an ambience of opulence and comfort. Marble dominates the bathrooms where large mirrors reflect the golden light of crystal light fixtures, and soft terry robes keep guests cozy after a soak in the Jacuzzi bathtub.
If guests can pull themselves away from the awe-inspiring hotel, there are plenty of activities to fill the day. There is golf, horseback riding, boating, fishing, tennis, swimming and water sports nearby. The culturally inclined can visit Orta San Giulio medieval town and its island, Alessi Factory, Milan and Switzerland.
The décor of The Villa Crespi Restaurant is as impressive as the rest of the hotel. Aqua and Wedgewood blue are the colors of choice. Ornate ceilings, Moorish arches, and elegant flowing valences and drapes grace the windows where guests can gaze out at Lake Orta while enjoying superb Mediterranean cuisine created under the auspices of master Chef Antonio Cannavacciuolo. Matteo Pastrello, a renowned wine expert, has compiled the excellent list of fine wines, and an exclusive cigar and liqueur list is also available as well as a coffee and tea list.
For a truly unique and exotic experience, visit The Villa Crespi.
